EL PEDREGOSO
FLIGHTS & LODGE
FLY FISHING
Patagonia is widely considered one of the top fly-fishing destinations in the world, and the challenging waters in the Chubut province are no exception.
The lakes, rivers, and spring creeks surrounding Hostería del Pedregoso offer unparalleled opportunities to catch wild brown, brook, and rainbow trout, as well as perch and landlocked salmon. The fish are wild, strong, and feisty, testing even the most experienced anglers. Their agility, sharp eyesight, and sensitivity make them easily spooked, especially in the crystal-clear waters, where depth perception is deceptive.
Trout and salmon were imported from the United States and Europe in the early 20th century and planted in Patagonia’s largest lakes. Since then, efforts have ensured a stable population of quality wild fish, especially brook, brown, and rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon averaging 20 inches in length. Local fishing regulations enforce a stringent catch-and-release policy.
Tito Tagle, the fishing guide at Hostería del Pedregoso, offers various outings to suit all levels of anglers. A typical full-day trip starts at 7 a.m., featuring a boat ride on the Carrileufú River, leading to Lago Rivadavia, Rivadavia River, and Lago Verde, with countless nymphing and dry-fly casting opportunities. Shorter outings along the Remanso River are also available.
